Trendy: Safety Pin Earrings

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Have you noticed that wearing a single safety pin earring is the go-to new accessory everyone seems to love those days? I'm a fan too, because I love how something so understated can look edgy and unexpected.

What do you think: thumbs up or down? (Here are two pairs that I've been swooning over...)

P.S: And this...
P.P.S: Plus, that.

Dinner To Die For

This is heavy, unexpected and very thought-provoking! Earlier this year, Henry Hargreaves, a Brooklyn-based artist and food photographer came out with his latest project aiming to draw attention to how many US prisoners were killed in 2016 by highlighting a humanizing detail from their lives: their last meals.

By showing a glimpse into the process of execution, he hopes to educate people about the use of the death penalty, even when there is 'uncertainty around so many cases'. I bet, we all have a personal view on it, but putting that aside, and just looking at those meals for what they are, what they should be, what food is to us - it’s shocking and a bit heartbreaking too. Isn’t it?

P.S: How much food people eat per day.
P.P.S: Healing soldiers.

An Aussie Take on Fish and Chips

Monday, August 21, 2017

I'm telling you, you simply can't say goodbye to summer without making those delicious lemon fish cakes! It's a mind-blowingly scrumptious Aussie take on the British classic and when served warm with mayonnaise, french fries, and lemon wedges - mmm...it makes for the most indulging end of summer meal. During our last week's staycation, we made it three times, because that is exactly how irresistible it is. Go on, treat yourself! (Here is the recipe).

P.S: Lobster rolls, anyone?
P.P.S: Ready for soup-season?

Bug Sculptures

Creepy crawlies usually give me the chills, but Raku Inoue’s series of insects actually makes me like them, for once. He uses an assortment of freshly-cut blooms to create colourful bug sculptures that are literally like little ethereal works of art. Aren’t they spot on?

Missed you all last week! So glad to be back...

P.S: A boy, a girl and a baby sparrow.
P.P.S: A chance encounter.

Weekend Jollies

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Cheers to the weekend and my 35th birthday tomorrow! Balazs and I are taking some time off to mark a super busy summer so far. So, I'm signing off a day earlier and treating myself to a week-long staycation! We're planning to sleep in, rumble around local cafés, people-watch, read books on the balcony till very late, eat breakfast for dinner and just be. So while I'll be doing that, feel free to browse through exPress-o (and the links below) maybe you’ll discover a post or two that you missed previously. See you on the 21st! (Miss you already).

Travelling Coffee Cups

Berk loves coffee, has a passion for drawing and a huge travel-bug. He goes everywhere with a bunch of plain coffee cups and when inspired by a specific place, he draws it onto his cups. The results are magical, if you ask me.

He has been in places like France, Slovakia, Belgium, Italy and even Denmark and I just love the uncomplicated simplicity of this project. You?

P.S: Food in the air.
P.P.S: Oh yes!

The Sweetest Wedding Day Advice

Tuesday, August 8, 2017

If you are getting married or know someone who does, here is the sweetest advice you can give them or yourself:

'Buy a brand new perfume to start wearing on your wedding day. Maybe get used to it on the day of your bridal shower, or at the rehearsal dinner. Then wear it on your wedding day and through the honeymoon. When you get back home and settle into your new married life, stop using the perfume. This is where there really sweet part comes in: keep the perfume somewhere safe so it can last for years, and wear it on every anniversary.

I promise you that upon smelling it, you’ll be taken right back to your wedding day or honeymoon and have the fondest memories.'

Basically it’s all about tying a fragrance to a memory. Oh so special, don’t you think? Btw: I bet this could work for a number of other occasions too, like a birth of a baby, engagement, special trip or an important date…

Would you try it?

P.S: Shinto-style bride in Tokyo.
P.P.S: Around the world in 38 weddings.

Tasseled

Have a pair of espadrille sneakers that need a bit of loving? Do what Erica did and jazz them up with a few cheery tassels that you can easily make yourself. I've been itching to get into a fun little project and I think this is the one! Fancy giving it a go too, here are all the instructions...

P.S: Seeing red...
P.P.S: Go-to uniform.

4 Months Old

Monday, August 7, 2017

This little rascal turned 4 months over the weekend and I can't believe how much she grew over the past two months. Yesterday, I read something that melted my heart and I bet it will melt yours too, if you are a dog person...

"We know that when dogs and humans make eye contact, that actually releases what's known as the love hormone, oxytocin, in both the dog and the human. It turns out oxytocin, the same hormone that helps new mothers bond with their babies, is released in both dogs and humans when they play, touch or look into one another's eyes. What we know now is that when dogs are actually looking at you, they're essentially hugging you with their eyes."

Sweet, isn't it? Do you have a dog? Tell me about her/him...

P.S: Cuties...
P.P.S: Remember this?

Dairo Koga is a bookseller, writer and brilliant photographer in Tokyo. He believes that everything is an expression of beauty, and he stunningly proves that with this little series of readers shot in his bookshop holding their favourite read. Love!
